Explore HCOS™ Governship Maturity and Assessment
Healthy Governship Develops Over Time
Healthy governance is not achieved all at once. Organizations learn, adapt, strengthen their processes, and improve how they exercise authority, accountability, and stewardship. The HCOS™ Governship Maturity Model provides a structured way to understand that progression, while the HCOS™ Governship Maturity Assessment helps organizations reflect on where they are today and identify practical opportunities for improvement.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is continuous learning and healthier Governship.
Five Stages of Governship Maturity
Level 1 — Informal Governship depends largely on individuals rather than consistent organizational practices.
Level 2 — Defined Roles, responsibilities, and governance practices begin to be documented and standardized.
Level 3 — Operationalized Governship becomes part of everyday organizational operations, with consistent decision-making and accountability.
Level 4 — Learning Organizations intentionally evaluate outcomes, gather feedback, and improve their governance practices over time.
Level 5 — Stewarded Governship becomes part of the organization's culture, preserving knowledge, supporting future leaders, and promoting long-term human flourishing.
Assessing Your Governship
The HCOS™ Governship Maturity Assessment encourages thoughtful reflection across several domains, including:
